Iga Swiatek nearly fumbled the lead in the second set but she remained calm and composed in the big moment beating Jabeur and getting the trophy.
She was able to secure her 3rd grand slam trophy at the age of 21 in a year that has truly been hers. It wasn't always easy although her streak kind of proves that it was but she knows what it took to get there. It's still a bit crazy for her:
“I needed to stay composed and focus on the goals. It’s New York -- it’s so loud and crazy. It’s really mind-blowing for me. I’m really proud I could handle it mentally.”
The year is something she didn't expect when it all started admitting:
“At the beginning of the season I realized that maybe I can have some good results on WTA events. I also made it to the semifinal of Australian Open. But I wasn’t sure if I was on the level yet to win actually a Grand Slam, especially on US Open where the surface is so fast."
She added:
“It’s something that I wasn’t expecting for sure. It’s also like a confirmation for me that sky is the limit. I’m proud, also surprised a little bit, just happy that I was able to do that.”
