Iva Jovic has done it again - completes statement Guadalajara title defence in dominant fashion

Iva Jovic is the dominant force in Mexico. She successfully defends her Guadalajara Open title in fine fashion, having not dropped a set in the whole tournament, as she managed to defeat Peyton Stearns 6-4, 6-2 for a brilliant title triumph.

After wins over Zeynep Sonmez, Magdalena Frech and Cristina Bucsa, she had Stearns standing in her way of a second WTA title. The 18-year-old had no issue of converting what was another brilliant performance, equating to an immaculate title defence in her third WTA final.

Jovic was dominant on serve, winning 73% of first serves and 62% of second serves, not even facing a break point in the entire match. She was also clinical, converting three of the five chances that came up as she ended with a flourish.

It was a very routine start to proceedings. Jovic was pushed on serve in the fourth game but to no avail from Stearns's perspective. The first break point in this tense final came in the ninth game when Jovic finally found some inroads against the serve.

She coolly converted her solitary opportunity and was now having the chance of serving it out. She did that with ease, taking a second set point to blast herself into a really healthy lead.

It got better straight after. Jovic made it five games on the spin in a dominant period, breaking to commence the second serve before managing to come through a tight service game, again with her American foe unable to muster up any chances.

Jovic then made a last-gasp dash to the finishing line. She went 0-40 to the good at 4-2 ahead, and despite Stearns making a fight back, Jovic took a third opportunity and would then serve it out. The exact same events occurred. Jovic sealed the title with a third championship point and again was the person on top in Guadalajara.

Wearing the sombero synonymous with this tournament, Jovic was delighted to have won. "It's amazing to be back here in the final with this beautiful trophy and this sombrero," Jovic said during the trophy presentation. "I love it here. You guys have given me so much energy. The crowd is my favourite thing about coming here, so thank you so much for being here."

Unfortunately, the trophy presentation was not a long one due to a sudden rainfall that got many scrambling for shelter, but there were a number of people who stayed out and watched Jovic lift the trophy.

There is not much movement in the rankings due to Jovic winning this event last year, cementing her spot currently in 16th. She was extremely happy with the progress as of late.

"I'm just happy with the improvements I've made throughout the year," Jovic told reporters. "I think I've shown that I'm a more complete and better player than I was this time around last year."

Jovic, like all the top WTA talents, will be making their way to Asia to compete in the events over there. Most notably the WTA 1000 tournaments in Beijing and Wuhan sure to create some storylines. Jovic, brimming with confidence, will fancy her chances for more silverware.
