Priscilla Hon scored the biggest win of her career in front of her home crowd at the Adelaide International I, defeating former World No.1 Petra Kvitová in a thrilling first round encounter.
Hon rallied from a set down to secure the 6-7(4) 7-5 6-2 victory, hitting an impressive 46 winners to score her first win over a Top 20 player.
"I can't explain how much I've been waiting for this moment," Hon said in the on-court interview. "I was injured for almost a year, so I was even more pumped to come out on tour and focus on what I've been wanting to do for the past couple of years."
The Australian had been sidelined for 14 months with a torn labrum in her hip, with her last WTA main draw appearance coming at Lyon in 2020. Despite her ranking falling to 263rd, the 23-year old put on a display that would have troubled several higher-ranked players.
"Pretty proud about how I held up at the end - I've been working really hard on that and staying calm," added Hon. "Obviously top players don't give it to you, so you've really got to work hard for it."
