Coco Gauff kicked off her 2022 season with an easy win at the Adelaide International I, breezing past Ulrikke Eikeri to book her spot in the second round.
Gauff was thoroughly dominant in the 6-1 6-2 victory, requiring just over an hour to power past her Norwegian opponent. The American looked composed on serve, firing 5 aces as she won 80% of points on her first serve.
Having had an impressive 2021 season, Gauff picked up where she left off in her commanding victory. The 17-year old pressured Eikeri from the baseline, employing powerful groundstrokes to dictate play. After racing through the first set, it was just a matter of time before the World No.22 obtained an early break to all but seal the outcome of the match.
Gauff will have a much tougher test in the second round, as she faces World No.1 Ashleigh Barty in front of a crowd that will undoubtedly be supporting the Australian.
