Ashleigh Barty believes the organizers of the Australian Open should be trusted to make the right decision, with regards to unvaccinated players being allowed to compete at the first Grand Slam of the year.
Although players wanting to compete at the event must either be vaccinated or apply for a medical exemption, defending champion Novak Djokovic has refused to reveal his vaccination status as the tournament draws closer. Several of the sport's top players have shared their views on this controversy, with Barty stating that the tournament organizers must be trusted to make the correct decision.
"It’s a tricky one for me, because it’s not my decision," admitted Barty. "We put trust in those people who are making those decisions. They have the correct information. That’s what it is – that’s all it is. There’s nothing else to it.”
The World No.1 revealed she has no problems competing against someone who isn't vaccinated, stating she didn't give much thought to her opponent's medical history.
"That’s the very last thing I’m thinking of when I’m on the court; is the medical history of the player on the opposite side,” added Barty.
