Jelena Ostapenko smashes Fruhvirtova in Madrid

Jelena Ostapenko arrived in Madrid in style beating Linda Fruhvirtova 6-0 6-3 at the Madrid Open showing a very high level of tennis.

Ostapenko has been playing really good tennis for much of the year but being back on her favourite surface of clay promises to unleash even better tennis from her. She certainly looked the part against Fruhvirtova jumping out to an early lead and then smashing her in the first set with a bagel 6-0.

The second set saw Fruhvirtova play a little bit better but for the most part, Ostapenko was still the better player and it wasn't really close. There are not many players that can hit as well as Ostapenko when she's feeling it and today was that day. Fruhvirtova helped her opponent greatly with 9 double faults but that was mostly due to the immense pressure Ostapenko puts on you.

She won 80 % of points when the Czech player missed her first serve and that was why Fruhvirtova risked more than usual on her serve. It didn't work out and the Latvian cruised 6-3 in the second set.
