Niemeier dumps out three-time Madrid Open champion Kvitova

Petra Kvitova was well beaten on Thursday to begin and end her Madrid Open campaign against German ace, Jule Niemeier in a 7-6, 6-1 win.

Kvitova looked tired and not herself from the first ball and Niemeier took advantage.

She saved two set points at 4-5, served for the opening set at 6-5 and then was sent to a tiebreak which the German sealed before using that start in 77 minutes to breeze through the second.

Kvitova racked up 53 unforced errors and now the victor will face Elise Mertens or Rebecca Marino in the third round with the Czech ace falling in her first match since the Miami Open title.
