Another big trophy for the formidable pairing of Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff as they best compatriot Taylor Townsend and Canadian Leylah Fernandez in the final 7-6(6) 6-2.
It was a really entertaining final, especially in the first set which was quite dramatic, especially in its conclusion. The early part of the match saw both teams handle their serve well. We saw break points on each side midway through but neither team really found a breakthrough. The conclusion was quite exciting though.
First, we saw Townsend hit an incredible passing shot that Gauff let through thinking it out would be wide but it wasn't. It was actually in and that point gave them the 6-5 break. It seemed like all but over when Gauff made another bad judgment call letting a ball through that fell into the court to save a break point in the next game.
Still, the next point was won by the American as they made it 6-6. The tiebreak saw some twists and turns but eventually, Pegula and Gauff proved more stable from the baseline and got it done 8-6. After that, the game of their opponents kind of fell apart and they were able to cruise in 6-2 in the final one.
