Petra Kvitova emerged victorious in the 2023 Miami Open and openly expressed her emotions following her triumph.
The former world no. 2 faced off against Elena Rybakina from Kazakhstan in an intense final that lasted one hour and 42 minutes. Kvitova eventually clinched the victory with a score of 7-6(14), 6-2, marking the first defeat for Rybakina in almost two months. The first-set tie-break was particularly noteworthy, as both players had five set points before Kvitova secured the win with a 16-14 score after a gruelling 30-point battle. The Czech player, who has more experience, spoke to the Tennis Channel about the tie-break after the match:
"The tiebreak, oh my god. Was probably the longest in my career, somehow I managed it. It was really difficult and the tiebreak was something amazing. You could see the balls after the tiebreak, it was like big fluffy balls."
She was further asked whether she had any specific goals this year and she jokingly responded:
"No, I don't have any goal. My goal was always to have one title in the season, so I'm already done."
She will also make a return to the top 10 for the first time in two years. Her reaction:
"Wow, I didn't even know this. I couldn't even expect this at all. To be back in the top 10, well, what can I say. I'm very happy. I didn't expect this at all."
