Eyes on the prize 🤙 No.3 seed @JLPegula beats compatriot Collins 6-1, 7-6(0) to set up a date with Linette in the fourth round! #MiamiOpen
An American derby in Miami finished with Pegula getting the better off of Danielle Collins in two sets 6-1 7-6(0) securing the next round.
Pegula and Collins know each other really well and it showed at times during the match. The former smashed Collins in the first set 6-1 taking apart her game bit by bit. Collins was simply off, she could not get anything going and that's kind of the way she plays. When she's on it's wonderful but when she's not playing up to her level it's pretty dreadful.
Pegula put her under a lot of pressure and Collins could not find a way to properly respond. The second set was much better for Collins as she started to serve really well. She had six aces in that set and by serving well she kept Pegula away from too many chances and when Pegula did find a break point, Collins saved her.
Unfortunately, she couldn't create too much pressure on return and Pegula didn't have a single break point in the second set. We ended up in a tiebreak where Pegula dominated by not losing a single point. She moves on to the next round.
