Jessica Pegula was demolishing
Irina Begu easily for a good set and half but then she simply lost it and allowed the Romanian to turn around the match putting her on the brink of defeat but she then came back in an even more unlikely fashion 7-5 4-6 6-4.
Oh boy, what was this from Pegula? She nearly threw away the win against Begu only to come back in spectacular fashion and win. Pegula broke Begu in the first game of the match taking a 2-0 lead. She would hold it for a few games but eventually, we saw Begu battle back and make it 4-4. Both players loved to hit the ball hard and at times one was simply better than the other.
Despite dropping the break, Pegula maintained composure and simply kept applying pressure which resulted in another break. This time around she would finish it off 6-4. The second set was even more impressive as Begu simply failed to match Pegula with the same level. She could not hit the ball as well and rallies quickly finished.
The American broke early 2-0 and then once more for a 4-0 lead before Begu finally ended the streak. It started a new streak but this around it was Begu who was dominating with the Romanian winning four games in a row after that one to take a 5-4 lead. Begu actually won the next game as well completing a reverse sweep by going from 0-4 to 6-4.
Things got even worse for Pegula in the final set as she fell behind 0-3 against Begu early in an incredible twist of events. Begu broke again to take a 4-0 lead but then she suffered the exact same thing she did to Pegula on set earlier. She completely lost all momentum and never found it back losing six games in a row to lose the match.
