Jessica Pegula will not be representing Team USA at this year's Billie Jean King Cup Finals in Prague, as the American revealed her withdrawal on Tuesday event.
The World No.21 took to social media to announce she would be withdrawing from the event due to being in close contact with someone who was exposed to the coronavirus. Although not positive herself, the 27-year old explained she was withdrawing out of precaution and stated she would be rooting for her team from home.
"Unfortunately due to a covid close contact & out of precaution, I won’t be able to play @BJKCup this year," posted Pegula on Twitter. "I am upset I won’t get the chance to represent my country and that the year ends for me this way. I wish the team the best of luck and will be rooting from home."
Pegula will be replaced by compatriot Shelby Rogers, with the event running from November 1-6, 2021.
