Sofia Kenin and Aryna Sabalenka are through to the next round of Roland Garros following victories over Bogdan and Kasatkina.
Sofia Kenin continued her Roland Garros journey with another victory but it wasn't as smooth as she might have hoped. The first set wasn't very good for Sofia who struggled with her serve a bit which allowed Bogdan to break her twice en route to a 6-3 1st set victory. The 2nd set saw an improvement in her serving and general play on her own serve which together with Bogdan struggles on her 2nd serve which allowed Kenin to come back into the match. She won the set 6-3.
The final set was when she completely took over. She broke Bogdan immediately at the start taking a 2-0 lead which grew bigger by the game. Her woeful serving came back in this set which gave Bogdan some hope but her own miserable serving put the final nail in the coffin. The final set went 6-2 to Kenin.
Joining her in the next round will be Aryna Sabalenka who defeated Daria Kasatkina to reach the next round of Roland Garros. The first set was a tough one for the Belarussian as she lost the 3 opening service games she had. She was lucky that Kasatkina struggled as well giving back two of them but still retaining a lead 4-2. Sabalenka mustered some strength and with a bit of luck tied it a 4-4.
Kasatkina broke her once more at 5-5 to take a 6-5 lead and give herself a good chance of winning the opening set. She would fail to convert it as Sabalenka forced a tiebreak. In it, it was she who played better winning it ultimately with 8-6. The 2nd set was just a furious dance where Sabalenka destroyed Kasatkina with strong baseline play. She had 19 winners in just that final set which lasted 6 games as she won it with 6-0.
