An eventful tennis day at the WTA event in Istanbul saw Kudermetova take down defending champion Sorana Cirstea while Potapova defeated Putintseva.
It's been a very interesting week in Istanbul where a WTA event has been going on. Like across many parts of the old continent, rain played a major factor in the event with players playing in rain a couple of times. The weather cooperated today and we found out who will play in the final tomorrow. In the first match, we saw Putintseva take on Potapova.
The player from Kazakhstan took the first set quite comfortably with 6-2. From there, however, the Russian was able to assert herself in a similar manner as she did the entire week. Potapova responded with 6-2 in the 2nd set and continued playing really well. She won the final one with 6-2 as well to move to the final. There, she will face Veronika Kudermetova, a fellow Russian.
Kudermetova returns every year to Istanbul and she generally plays rather well. Last year it was the semifinals that stopped her but this time around she was able to go one stage further. Getting there required her to defeat the defending champion Sorana Cirstea and she was able to do so 6-3 6-3. She never had any issues in the match as she is playing a very strong season so far.
