Kvitova was in the winners' circle at the Qatar Total Open after producing a comeback to defeat Carla Suarez Navarro. The Czech eighth seed had to come from a set down to defeat the retiring Spaniard.
She lost the first 6-4 but rallied from there winning the next two relatively comfortably 6-3, 6-0 to move through to the Last 16.
In the end, it was a pretty complete win for Kvitova who hit 70 percent win percentage on her first serve, 84 percent on her second serve and in all 4/9 on her break points.
There was also a great exchange between the two in the end with the victor knowing of course about Suarez Navarro's impending retirement.
There was also some victories which were a lot easier. In the case of Jelena Ostapenko and Svetlana Kuznetsova, they came through without a deal of fuss against Barbora Strycova and Iga Swiatek respectively.
Ostapenko had to battle through to defeat Jil Teichmann on Sunday but came through in a 6-1, 6-2 victory over her Czech opponent to move into the third round.
Kuznetsova confirmed a meeting with Amanda Anisimova after recording the same scoreline (6-2, 6-2) as her opening round victory in defeating Swiatek.
Number nine seed Aryna Sabalenka herself had a battle though in defeating Anett Kontaveit. The Belarusian won the first set 7-5 but lost the second making a real battle of it and took the last 7-5 in not the perfect start to her tournament in Qatar.
Saisai Zheng also came through like Ostapenko and Kuznetsova with relative ease defeating Vera Zvonareva 7-5, 6-1 and next up now is the in-form seventh seed Kiki Bertens.
