Linda Noskova and Karolina Muchova blast the Czech Republic into Billie Jean King Cup Finals with commanding triumph over Spain

The Czech Republic has reached the final of the Billie Jean King Cup Finals for the first time since 2018. They disposed of Spain 2-0 in two tight contests, with the Czech firepower of Karolina Muchova and Linda Noskova proving to be enough to give them a chance of glory.

The Wimbledon finalists are among a very strong Czech team. Their doubles star, Katerina Siniakova, is still yet to feature with the doubles No.1 watching on as the singles players continue to make an impression in Shenzhen.

They got to this stage after defeating Great Britain 2-0. Muchova was not even used, being saved for the doubles match which never came. Marie Bouzkova managed to fight her way past a tricky Sonay Kartal before Noskova showed her class with a straight-set win against Katie Boulter. That set them up with a tie against Spain, and they managed to get through it with flying colours.

Muchova was first up against Jessica Bouzas Maneiro. The two-time Grand Slam finalist was dragged into an intense battle, but came out on top 7-5, 6-4.

It was the Spaniard who took the lead. After five routine holds of serve, Bouzas Maneiro broke the serve to lead 4-2. However, Muchova fought back instantly and got the match back on serve before surviving three break points in the next game.

Muchova then strode clear right at the end. At 5-5, the Czech dropped just three points while converting a first set point to put her country ahead.

She made it four games on the spin with another break, but Bouzas Maneiro managed to get back on level terms. Three games later, Muchova broke again. This would prove to be the pivotal blow that Bouzas Maneiro could not respond to. She saw it out from there and gave her country a 1-0 lead.

It was now the turn of the Wimbledon champion to take to court. Noskova faced off against Cristina Bucsa in two contrasting sets, but both of them went the way of the 21-year-old who confirmed Czech Repoblic's place in the final with a 7-6(5), 6-2 win.

After surviving three break points in the prior game, Noskova converted her solitary chance in the second set. She then had a set point at 5-4 but was not as clinical this time round. Bucsa broke back and forced a tiebreak after another set point came and went.

This would not come back to bite Noskova back, edging out a tense tiebreak 7-5 to put her country one set away from the final.

It turned out to be a relatively comfortable one. Bucsa led 2-1 on serve but would be pinnied against the wall from that point onwards. Five games on the spin were swept up by Noskova who won the final 10 points to give themseves a shot at glory. They will play the winners of the other semi-final between reigning champions Italy and Ukraine.
