Iga Swiatek has endured a tough start to 2025 and has not won a title since Roland Garros last year. But despite that Lindsay Davenport remains resolute that she can turn it around despite seeing the stress on Swiatek.

Swiatek has had to endure a doping suspension and the criticism that it has brought. She began her 2025 well easing into the semi-finals of the Australian Open without losing a single set only to be defeated by eventual champion Madison Keys.

She was poor though in the Middle East swing. In particular in losing her Doha title which was the usual dead certainty on her radar. Despite losing in the semi-final after defeating Sakkari, Noskova and Rybakina, she still can't get past the hurdle of Jelena Ostapenko.

This was followed up by a crushing loss to Mirra Andreeva in Dubai again after crushing Victoria Azarenka and Dayana Yastremska. So it is very much fits and starts as Swiatek in some cases is at her best but is finding a way to be undone.

Davenport saw it perhaps as stress related and one where it could be down to results not going her way or even the fact that she has recently changed coach which perhaps has been glossed over with Wim Fissette joining the fold at the end of last season.

“For whatever reason, she looks more stressed out on the court. Whether that’s because the results haven’t been there or the change of coach, I don’t know, so I’m speculating. She just doesn’t look as calm or at ease on the court,” Davenport said as per Tennis.com.

“Sometimes it only takes one tournament, one match, one set, something that clicks in for a player and things start to turn around. She’s fortunate she’s coming into one of her favorite tournaments ... for me, she's the favorite going into Indian Wells.”
