Sara Bejlek produced one of the most emphatic results of the opening round, defeating former world No. 1 Karolina Pliskova 6-0, 6-2 in an all-Czech clash. The Colombian qualifier controlled the match from the outset, needing just 66 minutes to send the seven-time Grand Slam champion out of Cincinnati in straight sets.

Arango converted four of her five break opportunities and faced only one break point on her own serve, while winning 61% of all points contested. Williams was unable to stay competitive for sustained periods and suffered her 14th consecutive defeat. Arango's reward is a major second-round test against Iga Swiatek, the reigning Canadian Open champion.

Stearns survives Dart scare to reach second round

Peyton Stearns survived a late challenge from Harriet Dart to reach the second round with a 6-1, 7-6 victory. The match became far more competitive in the second set, however, as Stearns missed the opportunity to serve for the victory at 5-3. Dart recovered the break and pushed the set into a tiebreak, but Stearns remained composed when it mattered most. Her effectiveness behind the serve in the deciding tiebreak points ultimately allowed her to avoid a third set.

Golubic punishes Parks' serving struggles in straight-sets win

Viktorija Golubic also advanced comfortably, defeating Alycia Parks 6-2, 6-2 after a match dominated by the Swiss player's superior consistency. Parks landed only 46% of her first serves compared with 72% for Golubic, immediately putting herself under pressure in a match where she struggled to establish any rhythm behind her delivery.

Golubic made the difference on the important points, converting four of seven break opportunities. Parks created exactly the same number of chances on return but failed to convert any of them, allowing Golubic to maintain control throughout. The Swiss will now face Janice Tjen in the second round.

Stephens continues resurgence with straight-sets victory

The 33-year-old then found another breakthrough midway through the second set and refused to let Kraus back into the contest. Stephens was forced to save four further break points later in the set, but held firm to complete another straight-set victory and move into the second round.

Kenin completes comeback after Lys stumbles

Sofia Kenin produced an impressive turnaround in Cincinnati, recovering from a one-sided opening set to defeat Eva Lys 1-6, 6-3, 6-3. The American struggled to find her rhythm early on as Lys took control, but she gradually raised her level and turned the match around to secure a comeback victory.

Lys looked firmly in command in the opening set, racing to a 6-1 lead and putting Kenin under pressure from the outset. The German appeared on course to continue her strong run, but Kenin responded immediately in the second set, establishing a 3-1 lead before extending her advantage to 4-1.
