The 2003 edition of the Australian Open was the first one that Serena Williams won but it wouldn't be the last one.

Entering the 2003 Australian Open was a young Serena Williams looking to add her first Australian Open title to a tally that included already 4 grand slams at the time. She had an easy-going in the first week of the tournament winning against Loit, Callens, Tanasugarn and Daniilidou.
The second week of the tournament saw her facing harder opponents and having much more difficulty navigating them. She defeated Shaugnessy in straight sets, Clijsters in three and set up the first Williams sister's grand slam final. Both Serena and Venus had 4 grand slams at the time and neither won the Australian Open. It was a dramatic match with Serena ultimately coming on top in there sets 7-6(4) 3-6 6-4.
Since then Serena became one of the most dominant tennis players to ever play the game-winning 23 grand slam's and winning 85 % of her matches. The Williams sisters would repeat the final many years later in 2017 but the result was the same.
Serena will be looking to add another Australian Open title to her tally this year. Her first opponent will be Potapova from Russia. How far will Serena go remains to be seen but we will have daily coverage so don't go anywhere.
