Looks like I will have to give Anett my dress for the opening ceremony of the @WTAFinals… she’s too busy winning matches 😅👗
It's been a sensational season for Ons Jabeur who not only won her maiden trophy this year but also made her way inside the top 10 for the first time. The Tunisian player is currently slated to appear at the WTA Finals as well which would be the first time an Arab woman was able to secure that honor. However, she is also not playing right now after sustaining an elbow injury in Moscow last week.
That opened up a chance for Anett Kontaveit to secure a place in the WTA Finals over Jabeur who is unable to win any more points. The Estonian player has been on an impressive run lately that included title runs in Moscow and Ostrava along with a great showing in Indian Wells. In order to knock out Jabeur from the spot in the WTA Finals, Kontaveit needs to win the Transylvania Open in Cluj-Napoca.
So far it's been going well for the Estonian who will contest the semifinal today against Peterson. The match will begin at 14:00 CET and if she wins that match she will be only one match away from the finals. Because of that Jabeur joked on her Twitter writing:
"Looks like I will have to give Anett my dress for the opening ceremony of the @WTAFinals… she’s too busy winning matches."
It remains to be seen whether Kontaveit is able to complete the task of knocking Jabeur out of the WTA Finals but the Tunisian is certainly anxiously waiting to see.
