Rick Macci, former coach of WTA legend Serena Williams, believes the American is still the Greatest of All Time (GOAT)). Macci selected Williams over the likes of Steffi Graf and Margaret Court, who both have iconic careers and are in the conversation for greatest of all time. The 69-year old coach worked with Serena and sister Venus Williams during the early years of their careers. The Williams family relocated from their home in Compton to West Florida at age nine, in order to allow the girls attend Macci's tennis Academy.
Macci makes case for Serena Williams as the GOAT
In a post on Twitter on Sunday, Macci advocated for Williams as the greatest of all time. Although several people believe this title should go to Steffi Graf or Margaret Court, Macci stated Williams style of play and longevity places her above the competition. In terms of Grand Slam titles, Williams has the most in the Open Era with 23 singles titles whereas Graf has 22 and Court has 24, although she did not compete in the Open Era.
"Asked if SERENA is the goat as many feel it is Court or Graff. When you look at The Numbers, The Longevity and The eyeball test of speed, quickness , agility, size, strength and overall explosive arsenal as a FOOTNOTE the Compton Comet is the GOAT,” tweeted Rick Macci.
