Rising tennis star Ben Shelton continues to add more impressive stats to his resume. The 21-year old recently surpassed compatriot Taylor Fritz to become the highest-ranked American male player on the ATP Ranking table. Shelton prevailed at the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championship two weeks ago, defeating countryman Frances Tiafoe in a thrilling final. By virtue of his victory, the Atlanta native rose to a career-high of World No.14.

Houston title propels Shelton ahead of Fritz

Shelton has been a professional on the ATP Tour for less than two years, but has seen his stock rise during that time period. The American reached the semifinals of the US Open in 2023, falling to Novak Djokovic in a hotly contested match. Additionally, he won his maiden ATP title in Tokyo a few weeks later.
After his win in Houston a few weeks ago, Shelton reached the highest ranking of his career at World No.14. Compatriot Fritz suffered an early exit at the Monte-Carlos Masters, which saw his ranking drop. This enabled Shelton to overtake his countryman, as he now sits as the top-ranked American on the ATP circuit.
