Maria Sakkari comes back to win against Marino in Nottingham

Maria Sakkari booked her spot in the Nottingham quaterfinal after a win over Rebecca Marino 1-6 6-3 6-3.

It was a rough start for Sakkari who looked completely lost in the first set against a very focused and determined Marino. The Greek player struggled to find a very good rhythm in the opening set pretty much doing everything wrong. The Canadian secured the set 6-1 in her favour. Sakkari struggled a bit in the opening stages of the 2nd set as well.

She played better but could not find a breakthrough. Eventually, she was able to find one and she composed herself rather well when the rain started to fall. She was able to finish off the 2nd set 6-3 after which the match was suspended due to rain. They returned to play several hours later and this time around Sakkari was much more focused.

She took a lead and never let it go finishing off the match 6-3. It was a solid win for Skkari, especially after a rough start. She had momentum at the time of the suspension and she knew how to attack her opponent when the match resumed. All in all a bit of luck, a bit of skill and a quarterfinal for her in Nottingham.
