Simply Incredible ⭐️ 🇪🇬 Mayar Sheriff pulls double duty to win her first career title with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Sakkari! #ParmaLadiesOpen
Maria Sakkari is now 1-5 in finals after the Greek player got beaten by Egyptian Mayar Sherif 7-5 6-3 in the Parma Open final.
This was the second match of the day for both players as the programme was pushed back to today due to rain yesterday. Sherif had the far tougher match and her match was the second one of the day but still, she was able to win this match.
Losses in finals are becoming a trend for Sakkari who is now 1-5, an abysmal score that will only add fuel to the claims that she's a fairly weak player mentally. She actually started off well taking a 2-0 lead but as soon as Sherif found her rhythm the Egyptian slowly took over.
Sakkari served for the first set at 5-4 but failed to close it out losing it 5-7. She was up a break three different times but could not get it done. The second set was pretty much the same thing as she took an early 2-0 lead but gave it right back.
At 3-3, Sakkari had a 40-15 lead with two break points but she failed to use them losing the game. She lost the next game on her serve as well and finally lost one more to lose the match.
