Tuesday was a day full of surprises by qualifiers and dominant victories at the Palermo Ladies Open in Italy.
The second day at the
Palermo Ladies Open was kicked-off by the action on all three courts. On all three courts, there was a qualifier playing and we also saw two seeded players in the opening matches.
On the center court, no. 2 in Palermo,
Marketa Vondrousova played against Kaja Juvan. The Czech had a rocket start to the match when she has won the first set 6-1. However, Vondrousova didn't manage to win the match after she lost the following two sets 5-7 and 4-6.
Another qualifier,
Aliaksandra Sasnovich took care of another surprise in Italy. The Belarusian faced the fifth-seeded
Elise Mertens. Sasnovich didn't experience any major difficulties during the match against Mertens as she triumphed in two sets 6-4, 6-1.
The third qualifier that played during the three opening matches, Oceane Dodin also got a victory. Dodin turned the match against Zidansek to win it 2-6, 6-4, 6-4. Liudmila Samsonova was another successful qualifier on Tuesday. The Russian outplayed Kirsten Flipkens comfortably in two sets to reach the second round.
Nadia Podorska was the only unsuccessful qualifier on Tuesday. She faced
Fiona Ferro in a match that saw a comfortable victory of the French player 6-2, 6-1.
Petra Martic also allowed her opponent to win only 3 games. Martic defeated Alison Van Uytvanck 6-0, 6-3.
