In 2020, the Palermo Ladies Open will see its 31st edition. It will be the first tournament after the WTA Tour suspension which was caused by the Coronavirus pandemic. The tournament director, Oliviero Palma gathered the brightest WTA stars to compete in Palermo.

World number 2, Simona Halep was one of the players that should have competed at the 31st edition of the tournament in Palermo. However, the Romanian star has decided to pull out of this tournament. Despite being allowed to travel to Italy, she withdrew due to the Coronavirus concerns.

Despite the withdrawal of the 2-time Grand Slam champion, the entry list remains very strong. There are 10 players from the Top 10 of the WTA Rankings including the 2019 Roland Garros finalist, Marketa Vondrousova.
