Aryna Sabalenka described herself as a different player who is more mature and calm after winning her maiden trophy of the 2023 season.
It was a pretty big deal for Sabalenka to win a trophy in the first week because she didn't win any last year. A disappointing season that saw her struggle with her serve for most of it is in the rearview window now and the future looks bright. Capping off a great week of tennis with another solid performance, Sabalenka was pretty happy after the win:
"I think I'm a different player right now. Maybe a little bit
smarter, a little bit calmer on court. Just a little bit of everything
changed."
It was a good performance and one where the serve finally worked the way she wanted it too. There weren't many double faults and she didn't miss the chance to speak about it after the match.
"I think my serve helped me a lot, today especially. I think I didn't give her much opportunities on my serve. I was able
to put her under pressure on her serve. So I think that's why I won
today."
She'll be hoping to continue the good play in the coming weeks.
