Russia’s young tennis star Mirra Andreeva has revealed the
reason behind her success on the court. The 17-year-old is already regarded as
the next big thing in women’s tennis in the singles category after getting some
notable success despite being so young.
Andreeva is currently taking part in the French Open where she
has already booked her place in the quarterfinal after beating France’s Varvara
Gracheva in straight sets with a score of 7-5, 6-2.
The Krasnoyarsk-born, while talking to The Straits Times,
talked in detail about her preparation ahead of any contest. She stated that while
she listens to everything her coach says but when she gets onto the court, she
has nothing in her mind and is more focused
"When we talk about the match, about the plan, about
tactics, I listen. But honestly, I don't remember anything after,” she said. "I
don't have anything in my head when we start playing the match. I just go there
and I'm like, 'Well, we'll see. I'll figure it out.' That's how I always play.
I think maybe this helps me a little bit I just go and I play and I see what
happens. I can adjust something during the match."
Mirra Andreeva registered her place in the quarterfinal of the French Open after beating France’s Varvara Gracheva.
Andreeva is set to face the world number two Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka
in the quarterfinal of the mega-event on Thursday. The 26-year-old defeated
America’s Emma Navarro in the round of 16 clash with a score of 6-2, 6-3.
It will be third time when the two will face off in
professional tennis. In the previous meetings, Sabalenka has a clear edge as
she won on both occasions. Interestingly, both of those meetings came in the
Madrid Open.
Their first meeting was back in 2023 where Sabalenka came
out on top with a score of 6-3, 6-1. Earlier this year, they once again met in
the quarterfinal of the Madrid Open where the reigning world number two came
out on top with a score of 6-1, 6-4.
