Mirra Andreeva stole the show with laughter when she showed off her British accent in a recent Miami Open interview. The 17-year-old is the rising star of the moment after achieving a 12-match winning streak that earned her maiden WTA 1000 titles at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships and Indian Wells.
The teenager reached her career-high ranking of world No. 6 this Monday and is one of the top contenders for the Miami Open title. Nevertheless, Andreeva is seeded 11th and will debut against compatriot Veronika Kudermetova, a former world No. 8.
Andreeva's streak hasn’t just been impressive — she’s defeated top rivals along the way, including world No. 7 Elena Rybakina (twice), world No. 2 Iga Swiatek (twice), and capped off a dream week at Indian Wells by coming from behind to beat world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.
As she prepares to return to the court, Andreeva showcased her sense of humour during an interview with Sky Sports, mimicking the British accent of her interviewers. “Can I have a spot of tea?” she joked, laughing. “It’s not bad, ain’t it?” she added.
The world No. 6 will also compete in the women’s doubles draw alongside her regular partner Diana Shnaider, with whom she claimed a silver medal at the recent Olympic Games.
Andreeva currently sits third in the WTA Race with 2,510 points, and a strong performance this week could see her overtake the leaders Madison Keys (2,954) and Aryna Sabalenka (2,590).
