Former World No.5 Eugenie Bouchard stated she enjoyed her experience at the 2023 Madrid Open, and her performance has inspired her to improve as she hopes to rediscover her form.
The 2014 Wimbledon finalist has been plagued by injuries over the last few years, which has seen her miss significant time off the court, causing a drop in her rankings. However, the Canadian experienced a bit of a resurgence in Madrid, where she defeated Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska in the first round to claim her first main draw win at the WTA 1000 tournament in six years.
Despite falling to Italian Martina Trevisan in the second round, Bouchard appeared pleased with her overall performance. The 29-year old claimed all her hard work following injury paid off, and this motivated her to keep competing at her best level.
"It’s been rewarding to win matches this week after all the time spent rehabbing & training," she wrote. "Motivated to keep going for more."
