French tennis player Alize Lim believes that former world number one Naomi Osaka’s new coach Patrick Mouratoglou is the right pick to help her regain the lost glory. The 26-year-old was once regarded as one of the best players currently playing in women’s tennis in the singles category.
Osaka returned to professional tennis this year after spending more than 12 months on the sidelines because of pregnancy. However, her return has not gone according to the plan which is why, in the recent past, she has announced to part ways with her former coaching staff. Since then, it was reported that she has hired famous tennis coach Mouratoglou.
The 54-year-old has worked with a number of top players, both in men’s and women’s tennis, in the past, including the likes of former world number one Serena Williams, Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas, Denmark’s Holger Rune and another former world number one Romania’s Simona Halep.
French tennis player Lim was recently quoted in a report. In it, she stated that, in her opinion, Mouratoglou is the right coach for a player like Osaka who is eyeing a return to her very best after a lengthy break. She also stated that she loves watching the former world number one play.
“For sure, she’s [Osaka] 100% disappointed and 100% wants to go higher quickly,” said Lim. “She has the weapons and she has the level to go back there – remember her match against Iga Swiatek at the French Open. She knows more than us. She can feel it inside and I feel it would be a great association with Patrick Mouratoglou, to be honest. It’s so exciting to watch her play. She would bring so much to women’s tennis if she could get back to that level. It will be interesting to see what he does tactically with her but also psychologically. I think his strength is to really help the player believe in themselves. This what she needs now.”
