Garbine Muguruza travelled to Morocco for some tennis ahead of the French Open but it was a short stay as she crashed out to Martina Trevisan 6-2 4-6 1-6.
Muguruza started well in this match taking advantage of Trevisan by spreading her around the court which the short-statured Italian found very difficult to counter. Muguruza also served well giving herself enough easy points and not go into long rallies with her opponent. All of that resulted in a fairly solid 6-2 opening set victory.
She continued playing well in the 2nd set but Trevisan played better as well. Despite having a 3-1 lead early in the 2nd set the Italian was able to battle back with increased aggression stunning Muguruza. The Spaniard did not know how to respond to the increased aggression from Trevisan who attacked every ball. She hit some while missing the others but totally shifted the momentum.
Muguruza started to overhit a lot of balls trying to match the aggressiveness but errors kept piling up and a 3-1 lead became a 4-6 2nd set loss. The Spaniard looked quite disinterested in the match after that completely turning her focus off. Trevisan jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and from there cruised to a 6-1 finish. A bad loss for Muguruza who looked shockingly bad the entire clay season.
