Garbine Muguruza continued her great form with another strong victory in Melbourne as the Spaniard defeated Margarita Gasparyan 6-4 6-0.
It was the continuation of a very positive string of results for the Spaniard who is showcasing her fondness of playing in Australia for the 2nd consecutive year. After reaching the Australian Open final last year she added another final to her tally but also another loss. Despite that she was adamant it was a positive week for her:
"I was excited to start the Grand Slam already after a few weeks here on-site and in Melbourne. I think [it was] a very positive week. After having the quarantine and training, having an extra tournament to play on the same court, I feel like it was great no matter if I ended up losing the final or not."
Regarding the match itself she spoke that nothing changed for her too much after the Yarra Valley Classic run:
"I didn't feel like I had to do something different. I'm just wearing different clothes... It helped me to have many matches, just to keep the rhythm, just one more day on court."
Next up she will face Ludmilla Samsonova and on that match she said:
"She's a tough opponent. We played two years ago and it was a three-set match, a very hard battle, so I'm very happy to have won in two sets."
