Muguruza kicks off Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao La Liga match

Garbine Muguruza had a very successful 2021 campaign that was one of the better ones in recent years and she took some time off to watch a football match.

The match in question was a La Liga match between Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao played at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium in Madrid. Muguruza did not simply arrive to watch the match she had work to do. She was honored for her achievements in the previous year with a chance to take the opening kick-off on the match.

Before doing that she spoke briefly with team captains Karim Benzema and Iker Muniain demonstrating her great football skills. She stuck around for the match which ended up being a good win with the home team taking the victory. Earlier this week, on Wednesday, Garbine Muguruza met the royal Spanish couple, too. Not only did she meet King Felipe and Queen Letizia, but they had come to grace Muguruza’s own reception event.

2021 was a great season for Muguruza who won three big titles in the year including the WTA Finals in Guadalajara recently. The Spanish player also missed a large chunk of the clay season due to injury which is a shame could she could have won a couple of more trophies.
