Leylah Fernandez confirmed once more that her tennis goal will always be to become world number one and she looked like that during her US Open run.
Leylah Fernandez broke out in a major way with her incredible run at the US Open where she made it to the final but missed out on the fairytale because it belonged to Emma Raducanu. She's been up and down since then with some good performances but also an injury at Roland Garros which forced her to miss a lot of time.
Her comeback since then has been very lacklustre with the Canadian failing to find a really good rhythm and reel off some good performances. She's aware of the issue and is working on fixing it for the upcoming events:
"My goal is to be more consistent in tournaments, to reach the quarterfinals as many times as possible. Beyond this, my goal will always be to be No. 1 in the world, that will always be my goal, in addition to winning Grand Slams. I also I would like to end the year much better physically and mentally."
The clay season is coming up and while that is not the best surface of Fernandez, she proved at last year's Roland Garros that she can play well on it in the right circumstances.
