Aryna Sabalenka was supposed to play at the Charleston Open next week but she won't as she pulled out due to a groin injury that bothered her in Miami.
Sabalenka played well in Miami in spite of the injury but it's a muscle injury and it won't get any better without rest. The Belarussian was hoping to play in Charleston next week but it's not worth it in the end because she might make it worse and a big part of the season is coming up. She announced it on social media writing:
"Sad to announce that I have to withdraw from
Charleston! I picked up an injury during one of my matches in Miami and I
need time to rest and heal. I’m so sorry to the tournament and the
fans. I was really looking forward to being back and playing in front of
you all!"
The event is a WTA 500 event played on a green clay and it will feature a really strong entry list with the likes of Jessica Pegula, Ons Jabeur, and Belinda Bencic.
