Rafael Nadal is facing a tricky preparation for the
Australian Open as he revealed to AS what his December looked like since he return from his exhibition Tour.
Nadal travelled with Casper Ruud to South America following the ATP Finals for several exhibition matches. It was a good way for him to play himself into shape after not playing a lot of tennis in the second part of the year. He played well so the decision proved to be correct however he didn't do much since returning.
In an interview with AS, Nadal said:
“I arrived on the 3rd (of December). I spent almost a week doing nothing, which was the right thing to do. I did a bit of physical training, I think I’ll need a few days in
Australia. I’m aware that I’m a little bit short, but I’m confident that
I’ll be able to pick up the level I need to be competitive in
Australia.”
Before the new year, Nadal also made some changes in his team as Roig left his team:
“I turn to Gustavo because Francis decided to take a different
path. I’m not very much in favour of making big changes. Francis made a
decision, and above all I love him as a friend, practically family."
