Tunisian tennis star Ons Jabeur has had a subpar season in 2024, as she approaches her lowest WTA singles ranking in almost two years.
The former World No.2 suffered an early round loss at the recent Charleston Open, losing to American Danielle Collins in three sets. This was yet another disappointing tournament for Jabeur, who's best performance this season was at the Abu Dhabi Open, where she reached the quarterfinals. The Tunisian has failed to rediscover the form that saw her reach two Grand Slam finals less than two years ago, losing to unseeded players at every event since Abu Dhabi.
Jabeur has been a staple in the top 10 over the past two years, reaching a career high of World No.2 in June 2022. However, her early round losses have seen her plummet in the rankings. The 29-year old currently sits at World No.9 on the WTA rankings table. After being ranked No.6 at the start of the Charleston Open, her rapid drop was precipitated by the fact that Jabeur was the defending champion at the event. With the unpredictable Jelena Ostapenko trailing the 2022 Wimbledon runner-up and Jabeur yet to figure out a new gameplan, it could only be a matter of time before she sees her ranking drop out of the top 10.
