A blockbuster tie was potentially on the cards between the star of the French Open, Lois Boisson and former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu to be in pole position to qualify for Wimbledon.
But while Andreescu who has success on the surface managed to find that, Boisson could not as she was bundled out in three sets on Tuesday afternoon.
Boisson lost to Carson Branstine 6-2, 6-7, 6-4 in favour of the Canadian who now faces an all Canadian battle with Andreescu for a spot in the final round. Likely awaiting there could be Xiyu Wang or Maja Chwalinska who are the pick of the players just below.
Albeit Boisson's lack of success isn't really unexpected given she has barely played on grass before. She couldn't do so last year as an injury stopped her having even her golden chance of playing at Roland Garros.
She made up for that in reaching the semi-finals in Paris this year but amid being top seed in London, it is new added pressure and one that she couldn't see off.
While for Andreescu, it has all been done before and she eased through 6-2, 6-1 after just turning 25. Others in the draw include Rebeka Masarova, Diane Parry, Iva Jovic, Linda Fruhvirtova all aiming to reach Wimbledon.
But Boisson will not be there this year as she now heads towards the American hard court season with a new status and now aiming to back that up. Andreescu though will hope lightning doesn't strike twice, she had issues in regards to winning through her second tie at Roland Garros earlier this summer so had to alter her plans.
So she will hope that Branstine doesn't pose too much of a threat as she would then be one round away from winning through against the prior mentioned players.
