Emma Raducanu's next step was somewhat a mystery after she lost out at the Qatar Open and seemed not to be afforded a wildcard for Indian Wells. But she can count on at least one part of the Sunshine Double in the Miami Open.
The Miami Open kicks off on 17 March and Raducanu will be involved, she is still waiting to hear back on Indian Wells with the draw for the tournament starting on 6 March. She doesn't have a high enough ranking for direct entry or qualifying.
Further wildcards for both tournaments have been afforded to Caroline Wozniacki and Venus Williams with Kei Nishikori on the men's side also set for his return. Raducanu playing Miami was always a foregone conclusion with management IMG running the tournament. It comes on a week where agent, Max Eisenbud has batted away criticism that has circulated around the Brit since she won the US Open back in 2021. It has been a fraught road since then with injuries and also public perception not helping her cause but she will aim to get back on track likely starting in Miami.
“The girl did everything backward,” said agent Max Eisenbud on Andy Roddick's Served Podcast. “She skipped every step!
“She won the US Open, she went to the next tournament, she didn’t even know where the player lounge was, she didn’t know where the practice courts were. I don’t think just being tough on her or critical on her like any other player [is wrong]. But she is still figuring it out. I just think that people should not be malicious.
“She really is a hard worker. And tennis is her priority. Yes, people want to see that she does other things. But the way I see her work and how smart she is, I believe she’ll win more [Grand] Slams.”
