Maria Sakkari was up 6-1 5-2 only a few points away from victory however the Tunisian superstar
Ons Jabeur found a way to come back and win the match 1-6 7-5 6-3.
It was not a good week for Maria Sakkari in Madrid but she got back on track this week in Rome, well almost. Sakkari played the Madrid Open winner Ons Jabeur in the quarterfinal today and she largely did not have any issues early on. She opened the match with a 3-0 run and continued playing well taking the first set with 6-1.
Sakkari did the majority of the damage on her opponent's 2nd serve. On her own serve, Sakkari largely dominated dropping only a handful of points in both the first and the first part of the 2nd set. Jabeur served better in the 2nd set but she simply did not have falling back 2-5 in the 2nd as well. She rushed, she tried to hit winners from difficult positions and it simply did not work.
Sakkari failed to serve it out at 5-2 and then once again at 5-4. She went from being up 5-2 to trailing 5-6 and she lost her serve once more to choke the win away 5-7. In the final set Sakkari totally crumbled losing out easily 6-1. Spectacular comeback from Jabeur but she was greatly helped by WTA's choker extraordinaire Maria Sakkari.
