Ons Jabeur is through to the
US Open semi-final after beating
Ajla Tomljanovic in straight sets 6-4 7-6(4) in New York.
The Tunisian player is back to a semi-final of a grand slam after failing in the Wimbledon final to Elena Rybakina. She's playing really well and quite confident in her abilities which was particularly noticeable in the second set tiebreak.
The start of the match was really good for Jabeur who took an early 3-1 lead after some spectacular hitting from the baseline. Tomljanovic did find her own game and broke back to make it 3-3 but dropped her serve once more in the next game. From there Jabeur controlled the set really well closing it out 6-4.
She had more winners and fewer errors which was enough to get it done. The 2nd set was a bit more tricky. She opened well taking an early break but gave it back not long after that. Tomljanovic played really aggressively going all out knowing that it would either ruin or save her.
It ruined her initially as she dropped her serve once more to give Jabeur the 3-2 lead but then went on a 3-0 run to take a 5-3 lead. She lost the serve when she was supposed to serve for the set and we ended up in a tiebreak. It was a well-contested one but Jabeur prevailed 7-4.
