Chris Evert updated her followers on her battle against cancer and expressed gratitude to her ex-husband, Andy Mill, amid chemotherapy sessions. The 28-times Grand Slam champion is in her third round of treatment for ovarian cancer, a battle she previously fought against and that resurfaced after a year of remission.

The former world No. 1 first announced her cancer diagnosis in January 2022 after undergoing preventive hysterectomy a month earlier, which was an early detection through genetic testing.

Evert shares update on cancer battle

Former world No. 1 initially shared that after six rounds of chemotherapy, she was cancer-free, with a 90% chance that the cancer would not return, according to her doctors. However, at the end of 2023, she revealed that she would have to face another round in the fight against cancer and would not be part of the broadcasts for the 2024 Australian Open.

Nevertheless, Chrissie Evert remained optimistic and assured her fans that she would return in the following Grand Slam events of the season. The American recently posted two photos on Instagram, showing herself receiving her third chemotherapy session in the last month.

The first photo depicts her lying down with a cap, undergoing treatment from the medical team. In the second, she is seen with her ex-husband and father of her three children, Andy Mill, who visited her amid the treatment.

"Onto my 3rd round of Chemo; halfway there - A reminder to get your checkups, know your family history, and be your own advocate with your health. Early detection is crucial! It doesn’t hurt to have a good support system like I do :)" Evert wrote.

The post received comments from several historic tennis players, including former Grand Slam champions Gabriela Sabatini, Mary Pierce, and gold medalist Monica Puig, as well as tennis legend Billie Jean King. Also left comments the 2-times Grand Slam finalist Alex Corretja, four-times mixed doubles Grand Slam champion Daniela Hantuchova and the tennis expert and former player Rennae Stubbs.
