Paula Badosa played a brilliant match against
Maria Sakkari 7-6(4) 6-4 to secure a spot in the WTA Fins semifinal.
Paula Badosa is proving to belong at the
WTA Finals with some stellar performances at the event. The last one came today against Maria Sakkari whom the Spaniard defeated in straight sets. That victory was her 2nd one sending her automateically to the semfinals. Badosa largely did damage with her serve that worked to perfection.
A self-described fan of the shot, Badosa had it working all day long and that proved very difficult for Sakkari to overcome. Most of the serves set up points rather easily and the Spanish player had no issues in finishing them off. In return, she was able to apply pressure on Sakkari with some deep returns. Eventually, that allowed her to break the Greek and take a 4-2 lead.
At 5-4, she served for the first set but a lapse in focus allowed Sakkari to come back into the match. Ultimately the first set was settled in the tiebreak where Badosa dominated from the start. The 2nd set was fairly similar in that Badosa once again did the same thing. On her serve she was superb but she needed to hit the first one.
On return she did just enough to break Sakkari and she did it fairly early. From there it a rather easy and quikc finish for Badosa who maintained her lead with some stellar serving and play on her own serve. The Spanish player makes the semifinals in her first appereance at the WTA Final.s
