The first WTA
Miami Open quarterfinal is done as
Paula Badosa retired against
Jessica Pegula 20 minutes into the match.
The Spaniard opened the match well breaking her opponent in the first game and taking a 1-0 lead. She then lost her serve in the next game as she was unable to hit her first serve. That gave Pegula a lot of time to set up her baseline game and she did. Pegula then took a 2-1 lead and broke Badosa once more for a 3-1 lead. Once again Badosa failed to hit a single first serve.
After Pegula won her service game to take a 4-1 lead, Badosa retired from the match. It's unclear what had happened to Badosa but she did not have very good body language in the match. There were rumblings about her injuring her leg against Fruhvirtova.
