America’s
Jessica Pegula secured another thumping win to
continue her journey in
Wimbledon 2023.
The 29-year-old booked her place in the last-eight with a
comprehensive win in straight sets against Ukraine’s
Lesia Tsurenko with a score
of 6-1, 6-3 on Sunday.
Pegula was extremely dominant from the word go as she cruised
past her opponent in the first set, losing just one game in the process. While doing
so, she ended up producing 12 winners, eight more than her opponent.
The second set was not much different as well where the current world number three ended up winning 67 percent service points.
This is the first time when the New York-born has managed to
book her place in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon.
She will now face Czech Republic's Marketa Vondrousova in the quarterfinal of the tournament on Tuesday.
The manner of the victory will definitely give Pegula a lot
of confidence going into the next round as she has only lost one set so far in
the competition which was against fellow American Lauren Davis in the tournament
opener.
Since then, she has defeated all her opponents — Spain’s Cristina
Bucsa, Italy’s Elisabetta Cocciaretto and Ukraine’s Tsurenko — in straight
sets.
