Petra Kvitova advanced to the Western & Southern Open semi-finals by beating Ajla Tomljanovic 6-2 6-3.
Kvitova did not have a very good year so far this year but she was able to secure a pretty big win over Tomljanovic in Cincinnati. She showed an improved level at Wimbledon and it's obvious that her form is trending in the right direction leading up to the US Open.
She's not having trouble with the different (lighter) balls and the ball is flying really well. The powerful serve was on full display here as well as she hit 12 aces in total. The percentage was pretty decent at 61 % as well and it was just a great performance from Kvitova.
She returned well as well putting a lot of pressure on Tomljanovic who struggled with her 2nd serve. Kvitova won 12 of 19 points on the Australian's 2nd serve using five break points as well. She was broken twice as well so it wasn't perfect from her but she won't find many negatives in a 6-2 6-3 performance that got her a WTA Premier 1000 semi-final.
Up next for her is a red-hot Madison Keys who looks really sharp as well.
