Petra Kvitova played a superb match in Eastbourne to down
Jelena Ostapenko in straight sets 6-3 6-2 for her first trophy in 2022.
They played once this year and Ostapenko proved better in Doha but this time around Kvitova was able to avenge her defeat with a superb all-around performance. It's been a rough few weeks for Kvitova on grass which is unusual for her.
This week in Eastbourne it finally clicked and she was pretty much on a tear all week long. She snapped Haddad Maia's streak yesterday and proving it was no fluke, she downed Ostapenko today comfortably. The Czech player attacked with her serve early in rallies setting herself up for easy finishes. Ostapenko tried to match but fell up short more than a few times.
Kvitova took an early 3-0 lead and never looked back racing to a 6-3 finish in the first set. The serve was a huge difference in this one because Petra served much better. She got more free points and was able to save all five break points she faced.
Ostapenko did well in that department as well saving 8 of 11 she faced but she still lost her serve three times. The 2nd set was just a continuation of the first with Kvitova cruising 6-2.
