Karolina Pliskova overcame losing the first set to come back and win against Aryna Sabalenka 5-7 6-4 6-4 to reach maiden Wimbledon final.
Karolina Pliskova is through to her maiden Wimbledon final as she bested Aryna Sabalenka in three sets. The Czech player played very good tennis from the start but lost the first set after a late lapse in focus. Both of them served well initially but Pliskova had several break points.
After saving 8 break points in the first set Sabalenka used her lone one late in the set to win it 7-5. Good play continued in the 2nd set but Pliskova was a lot more aggressive than in the first set. Hitting her shots at a high rate worked and she was able to win it 6-4. She blasted 15 winners to only 5 mistakes and did not allow a single break point.
The final set opened well for Pliskova who carved out a break point in the first game of the 3rd set. After converting it she never looked back keeping the lead until the end. She closed it out with 6-4 after some stellar serving in the 3rd set where Sabalenka barely got any serve back.
Pliskova was virutally unplayable because even if Aryna returned the ball she would get hit by a strong baseline winner. Pliskova is playing the best tennis this year and she will be a formidable opponent in the final. She plays Barty for the trophy on Saturday.
