The WTA 1000 event in Rome begins on Monday and the draw has some very interesting potential quarter-final matchups.
The first one is between world number one Iga Swiatek and
Anett Kontaveit. Neither of those players played last week in Marid so it will be interesting to see whether they even make it to the quarterfinals. Both had an injury and both should be good to go here so a very interesting quarter-final could be on the cards if all goes according to plan.
The 2nd one is between
Danielle Collins and Aryna Sabaelnka. Neither played really well in Madrid last week and both were out of the event quite early. It's been a tricky season for both with Collins dealing with injuries and Sabalenka dealing with poor play overall. Another interesting one is between Garbine Muguruza and
Maria Sakkari.
Once again, neither had a very good showing in Madrid as both crashed out early to lower-ranked players. Muguruza's defeat was far worse as she had to take a medical timeout with her health a question mark heading into this one. The final one is between Karolina Plisvako and
Paula Badosa. Once again neither played that well in Madrid and it will be interesting to see how they bounce back.
